Deerborn, Michigan Republican Debates

Unfortunately did not get a chance to see the entire debate. Based on what I saw, I thought Guiliani looked strong as did Romney. Thompson looked weak. As weak and unprepared as he looked in San Diego in July when I met him at Hannity's Freedom Concert. He's does not have the charisma, gate, nor eye contact that historical leaders have possessed.

How about Ron Paul? He looked pretty strong!

Why does Huckabee think he's a front runner?

With the last name Huckabee he can only expect to sell in the general vicinity of the Ozark Mountain range. Anywhere else and he will be considered too "Hick" (or maybe too Huck).

As far as Thompson goes, I believe it is not good if you make Senator John McCain look young. Please spit it out Fred, we need a true conservative to win this race!

You may be our only hope??!

The Results from the Debate

Mitt Romney - he is comfortably settling into the role of "Look at me. I am a strong leader like Ronald Reagan." He is easily the smoothest speaker of the bunch and getting into an argument with the Giuliani can only help his credibility.

I have a number of issues with Romney, but my main concern is the fact he brought Socialized Medicine to Massachusetts and I am fearful he would be in favor of Hillary-Care.

Mike Huckabee - Huckabee is really starting to shine in these debates. He has a personality. He is the best speaker. Huckabee seems to be a real moderate, but this is a year where the GOP field is full of them...and like Franny spoke of,with a name like "Huckabee" he is going to have a hard time appealing to people outside the South. Although, he looked sharp, quick witted and on-point during this last debate.

Rudy Giuliani - This the best performance from Giuliani. He was hilarious taking Hillary to task on all her outlandish issues, such as Socialized Medicine. His comment that "the Canadians will need to find somewhere else to get there medical attention if we go to socialized medicine like Hillary proposes" was awesome!

Fred Thompson - the media so wants Thompson to be in the race, but it is so damn painful to hear him speak. I think Thompson would do better in the next debate if his writers from Law & Order could could get a script prepared ahead of time to read and memorize his lines, versus having to actually speak from the heart. Looks like all the role-playing didn't pay off too well for Freddy.

Ron Paul - Nobody needs that airtime more than Ron Paul, and it doesn't look good for him.

John McCain - he looks and sounds old. He had to ask the mediator repeat her questions 3x because he couldn't hear and he has that dumb look on his face when he tries to listen to her questions.

Tom Tancredo- Tancredo is a single issue candidate that is slowly getting squeezed out of the race. He believes in himself and has good arguements, but may be too right-wing to appeal to the masses.

All in all the debates were pretty amusing. If you listen to the media they will tell you that Fred Thompson looked good and he is positioning himself to be our frontrunner...whereas the only thing I think he is positioning himself is to be back on "Law and Order."

First Place: Giuliani
Second Place: Huckabee
Third Place: Romney

Only one candidate can beat Hillary ... and that is Rudy.

It does not mattter WHAT any of them say, they can not beat her and the Democrats know it !
Rudy is their worst nightmare .... smart, tuff, quick on his feet, is not afraid or in awe of the Bull-shit Clinton machine, and he can take a complicated issue and make it simple for the average voter.
Best of all, Rudy makes the Democrats spend money in NY and N.Jersey, as he is a real threat there !
The Dems want to use the "Perot strategy" again, and that is to sell the stupid conservtives on the viability of a third party candidate like Ross Perot. Clinton would never have been president if it were not for Perot. Perot got 19% of the vote the first time, and Clinton won by only 3%. The entire 19% would have gone to Bush and we would never have had to live with that piece of shit Clinton for 8
long fucking years .... Fuck worrying about the abortion issue or same sex partnership crap... worry instead about the throat cutting Muslims! This war is the only issue of our time !

A vote for anybody but Rudy is a sure vote for Hillary !

Great thread, Good historical perspective however this is where I take issue...

You are speaking to the choir on this one.
I am worried that Giuliani cant galvanize the conservative base. Unfortunately they don't share the same utilitarianism belief that we do.
The other voting block he needs to specifically target is women. Liberals and women who are not educated will invariably side with evil over good, wrong over right and the behaviors that lead to failure over those that lead to success.

Therefore, you are right Guiliani does possess much charisma and vigor however if he cannot capture these two voting blocks its good night nurse.
