Just Follow the Money

Tensions stemming from the 1915 mass killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire are a bitter point of contention, with the Armenian state decrying the killings as genocide; the modern Turkish state denying that a genocide of Armenians occurred in the waning days of the Ottoman Empire. Merely to speak of the Armenian Genocide in modern Turkey is to risk "insulting turkishness", a criminal offense for which various Turkish intelligentsia have been brought to trial.

Most reasonable historians will agree that a Ottoman massacre of Armenians did occur. In fact the United States House of Representatives passed resolutions in 1975 and 1985 consistent with this.

So why is it necessary that the United States House of Representative lead by Nancy Pelosi continue to bring this issue to the house floor? Especially when Ms. Pelosi is well aware that this will embarrass and isolate a courageous modern Islamic government in a region that has very few.

The time line is very interesting consider on October 10, 2007 a very cavalier Ms. Pelosi decided that a decision in the House will be passed on this issue before the end of November. On the 17th of October by another related vote the Turkish Parliament allowed their military to pursue the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) into Northern Iraq. All estimates agree this will not only destabilize perhaps the worlds most volatile region however also strain relations between a key ally on the war in Iraq.

If America continues to persist in dishing out what Turks believe as a great insult they will not allow us any of the benefits necessary to winning this war. Currently 3/4 of all cargo passes into Iraq is through Incirlik Air base in Southern Turkey. The US Air force fly freely through Turkish airspace on missions to Afghanistan and Iraq. The US Navy uses Turkish ports to refuel and reload. Turkey currently provides Iraq its electricity. Supply trucks loaded with fuel enter through the Turkish-Iraq border.

So to conclude I have two questions for the Conservative Chatroom.

Why is it necessary that the United States House of Representative lead by Nancy Pelosi continue to bring this issue to the house floor?

Whose constituency in the state of California include many rich Armenians?

Thank you Ms. Pelosi for putting Armenian lobbyist in front of the well being of the greatest nation on GODS green earth.
